There are obviously several causes of headaches and not all can be helped by Dr. Rainey. Here are the types of presentations he likes to see.
1. Cervicogenic: Complaint of pain localized to the neck and occipital region. May project to forehead, orbital region, temples, vertex of ears. (International Headache Society)
2. Chronic migraines
3. Any headache that has been seen by multiple healthcare providers, but hasn’t improved
Treatment for headaches
Manual therapy is almost always an important aspect of treating headaches. Depending on what is found during evaluation, the following are common treatments for headaches.
Cervical thrust (video) on non-thrust (video start at 1:24) manipulation of the the upper-cervical spine.
Thoracic thrust manipulation (video)
Dry needling upper traps or other associated muscles (see pictures below)
