It can be so frustrating feeling tired after what should have been a restful night. Sleep is essential to our health and wellbeing. It's a time for our bodies to recover and support us physically, neurologically, and cardiovascularly. Many of us suffer from sleep disturbances. Sleep disturbances are quite prevalent among those with Parkinson's Disease, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury, and neck and back pain.
A significant factor causing interrupted sleep is Chronic Pain. Achey joints and muscles can prolong falling asleep and make staying asleep difficult. To improve your sleep, we begin with an evaluation, considering your overall wellness. Along the way, we will educate about sleep hygiene. A few helpful tips include going to sleep and waking up at the same time every day so you can reset your biological clock, use your bed only for sleep, training your brain that bed equals sleep, and avoid napping during the day, making you more tired at night. If these tips are not enough we have a trained doctor in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I). Seeing a physical therapist or our insomnia specialist can help decrease pain leading to an increase in sleep. We enable increased mobility and manage pain. We look at the whole health picture and educate how the body and mind functions work together, providing you with more restful nights. |
